A Tribute To The Voices
That Shaped
Malaysia
The Living History Project is a free, digital museum that preserves and celebrates the personal stories of those who have shaped Malaysia — told in their own words. As a not-for-profit public resource, it's accessible anytime, anywhere, making it a powerful tool for education, inspiration, and remembrance. More than just a local archive, this international platform connects Malaysians at home and abroad, building a bridge between past and future. Together, we're not only preserving history — we're honouring it, ensuring that future generations understand, appreciate, and carry forward our rich cultural legacy.

TLHP Profile of the Month

YUSUF HASHIM
Explorer & Photographer
Yusuf Hashim stands as one of Malaysia's most distinctive figures in the realm of exploration and photography. His life is defined by a deliberate choice to step away from convention and embrace the unknown. At the age of fifty-three, he retired from the corporate world, declaring that he would spend his children's inheritance to pursue a life of adventure. That decision marked the beginning of a second life — a life dedicated to discovery, documentation, and the pursuit of meaning through travel.
As an explorer, Yusuf has journeyed across continents, often venturing into landscapes that test endurance and resolve. He calls himself a “gypsetter” — a gypsy jetsetter — and the title reflects his refusal to be bound by borders or expectations. His camera has been his constant companion, transforming his journeys into visual records that capture not only the grandeur of nature but also the resilience of human communities.
His legacy is not only in the places he has visited or the images he has captured, but in the example he sets. He reminds us that exploration is not a luxury but a discipline, one that requires commitment, sacrifice, and vision.

Heritage: Penang
Penang is a place where time lingers. On its streets, layers of history unfold in the architecture of George Town’s shophouses, the scent of incense flavours of food, century-old clan temples and the inflections of Tamil, Hokkien, Malay, and English spoken in the same breath. Once a vital node in the colonial spice trade and a meeting point of Eastern and Western cultures, Penang today remains a cultural crossroads—where heritage and modernity exist in delicate tension.
